Coalition for Equal Rights

To All,

The ADD HOC comittee formed in Lakewood to impose stricker laws on smoking has had what I believe was their last meeting. At the last meeting I gave testimony on the statistics about economic damages caused by smoking bans. I then addressed the report that came from the Indiana Health Department. That report had reference to a ban in Ft. Wayne, IN. the report said there were no damages caused by the ban. In fact restaurants had shown an increase in receipts accross the county. I contacted the executive director for the beverage association in Indiana and asked him to look into this allegation for me. He came back with, "In the first 30 days of the ban 16 bars closed. 20 more closed in the first year" Then I asked, "If that is true, how can bar and restaurant receipts go up by 39% for the same period of time"? His reply, "Ft. Wayne is in Allen County, IN. and the figures are for all of Allen County not just Ft. Wayne".

So the smoker had only to cross into another city in Allen Couny to do his smoking. But even at that how would it account for a 39% increase in receipts? The reply, "The tax revenues are from the food and beverage tax records for all  of Allen County, to include all national chains, fast foods and bars. The bars tax contribution is based on gross sales and when included in the entire market is barely 10%".  So much for statistics.

I then addressed the references in the Indiana report. The name Stanton Glantz appeared several times in the report and again in the Jefferson County Health report. Stanton Glantz: Professor at the University of California at San Francisco,(UCSF). This man has a doctorate in applied mechanics, not health, not biology, and not economics. How can this person be qualified to do such studies. I'll tell you how. Dr. Glantz is no more than an employee of the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, ( RWJF). His studies were funded by RWJF($36,000,000.00 thats million dollars), and at about the same time there was a past president of RWJF at UCSF. Would those be BIASED studies? Then I offered to provide recent studies that prove otherwise.

Someone on the committee had mentioned ventilation earlier in the evening. So in addressing that I said, "There are ventilation units made to fix that problem". I asked the committee, "How do you suppose they clear the air in Hospital Emergency Rooms of air bourne contaminates"? or "How did they remove Anthrax from government offices in Washington, DC when it was thought to be air bourne"? Ventilation!!!!!

FYI: ETS/SHS increases risk by 30%, Ventilation can remove up to 90%, that reduces the risk to 3% which is accepable, (Repace Studies).

I addressed a couple of other things after that but it fell on deaf ears. The committee chairman replied, "We are not interested in your statistics". He then read from something in front of him, "There is no safe level of ETS/SHS". With that I was dismissed. They then proceeded with their ideas of the perfect ordinance.

FYI: The phrase that the committee chairman refered to was coined by the surgeon general, Carmona, in his report in 2006. He also used it widely in the media. This is an opinion not a fact. But it is something the health departments picked up on. The fact is that there are no scientific studies out there that can back up that statement.

Make no mistake folks, these people do not wish to see the cigarette leave alone the smoke.

The height of hypocrisy. You can sell and distribute the product for our benefit, you just can't use it anywhere.

Coalition For Equal Rights Press Release on September 10, 2007

14th_Amendment.jpg

Welcome To Our Site!

We are committed to the Equal Private Property Rights of the small bar, tavern, and restaurant owners. We are working with the Colorado Licensed Beverage Association to stop the violations of these rights under the 14th amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.

Effective July 1, 2006 a statewide no-smoking ban was implemented, and cost thousands of Colorado’s favorite bar, tavern, and restaurant owners to suffer great profit losses, and many will close their doors. We are relying on everyone who believes in the 14th amendment to help support your favorite bar and restaurant owners, and donate today. The Coalition of Equal Rights, needs your support in order to fight against this injustice.

Welcome Statue of Liberty

Through Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) payments and monies from other similar settlements, state governments have unprecedented funds available to them to reduce youth smoking. These settlements provide the states up to $246 billion from tobacco companies over a 25-year period for use in supporting anti-smoking efforts. Future annual payments, based upon inflation and cigarette sales, will continue in perpetuity.......

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
