Bans of any kind only harm the hard working taxpayers
and costs them their hard earned money. Why politicians insist on doing the same thing over and over expecting different results
is because they and people refuse to learn that the lesson of history is that we forget the lessons of history. Gun bans,
as proposed in Chicago-- ( The home of prohibiton)-- create black markets that cater to whoever wants the banned
item by stealing them from honest people and businesses and selling them at inflated prices and thereby, the ban the
legislature enacted into law actually supports the very criminal element the ban was supposed to get rid
of.
All you need do is look at the alcohol prohibition movement of the 1920's and 1930's, led by
zealots like Carrey Amilia Moore, alias Carry Nation. Zealots Always fail to look down the road to the consequences of
their personal preference's driven actions because, as the self appointed saviors of society, they think they
know better how you should live your life than you do, and they really believe that you are too ignorant to see they are right.
All the prohibition movement accomplished was to force legitimate bar and tavern businesses to go out
of business while elevating organized crime to the level that it had more power and control in many cities, indeed the Nation,
than any police authority or the voting public and so they opened illegal speak easy's which also added
to the hugh loss of tax revenue to the local, State and National governments that was, and is to this
day, incalculable.
Now the smoking ban is forcing small mom and pop neighborhood bars and taverns to
close, (and soon independent casinos might well face the same fate), reducing tax revenue just like prohibition did and, the
outrageous and increasing taxes on tobacco products has created a criminal element black market in stolen cigarettes. And
does the ban not also fly in the face of personal responsibility for our actions and the freedom of choice that is guranteed
to us by the constitution.
Where is the good done by the smoking ban? Plain and simple, there is none. Did it
decrease the number of people who smoke? Not on your life. Did it reduce tax revenue? Yes it did. Did it create a black market
that is growing by leaps and bounds? Yes it did. Is it closing some small businesses and increasing unemployment, food stamps,
wellfare and aid to dependent children payments for the employees of others who were let go due to lack of business which
also forced the demise of their health care insurance coverages? Yes it did. Weigh that against the non smokers
who couldn't seem to stop going into smoking allowed bars and taverns so they could rant and rave about being subjected
to the alledged dangers of second hand smoke in places they rarely, if ever, would return to, and those zealots come
up short of justifying their actions that created the ban in the first place. When are we going to learn you can't legislate
the morality, especially that of special interests, nor should anyone try to, because it just plain doesn't
work and never will as long as human kind inhabits the planet. How much more government interference are you willing to suffer
under? How long will it take before every aspect of your life is controled by government and most of all, when are you going
to stand up for the freedom, liberty and justice we so far enjoy, somewhat, to insure it is not lost to us forever. Allen
