Death of Freedom

Last week New York passed the ban on trans-fat. New Yorkers are no longer intelligent enough to decide their own diets. Even though every item included in this ban, has been approved by the FDA. Do you believe this is where it will stop? This is just the beginning of this ban, as well as, many others to come. Do you believe this won't happen here in Colorado, or the state you live? What do you think is the next freedom you will lose?

This trans-fat ban will start popping up all over the country, even though states have never created these laws before now. I have heard many arguments about how states set the health codes, for example, in bars and restaurants, the temperature at which meat must be stored and cooked. But this is incorrect! The Federal government makes these laws and the states enforce them.  We are now being forced to live healthy lives, in which they argue, is for the greater good. This is also incorrect! If eating unhealthy food makes Bob happy, then by all means, Bob should eat it. This might stop him from going into the post office, or a school, and start shooting people. Maybe eating trans-fatty food helps Jill cope with Post Traumatic Stress from having a baby. And just maybe, those french fries will make her happy enough to not throw her baby into a dumpster, or drown it. If this is the case for Max and Jill, then isn't for the greater good to let them eat unhealthy food. Someone anonymous once said, "If you quit drinking, smoking and having sex, you don't live longer, it just seems longer." So here we sit staring at our computers and watching our freedoms being stolen away one by one. I think it's time. "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson

And don't forget the definition of freedom- The capacity to exercise choice; free will.
